Cinemassacre about Godzilla and 16mm films plus new Fred the Monkey podcast (Update)

In 2008, James Rolfe did a complete review of all the Godzilla movies ever made (see Godzillathon). In my opinion, it is not as entertaining as his History of Horror (same link), but still worth to watch if you are interested in that topic. Anyway, a week ago he finally posted an AVGN review for the Godzilla games! Furthermore he and Mike Matei talk about 16mm films in a trilogy of short movies, from which two are already online. They are really worth to watch and I can’t wait for the next one.

Update: The last episode has been released today.

Speaking of media worth to consume, there is a new Fred the Monkey podcast online called Space Chicken’s Vacation of the Mind. This is a bit surprising as JKR is in a bad condition now, but still was able to keep his deadline (one update per week) so check it out!

New AVGN Content and JDownloader Update

James Rolfe uploaded a hilarious outtake of the Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle episode as well as a completely new (but only 11 minutes long) episode about Super Pitfall. The reason why the Nerd takes a look at it, is because it turns out not to be as super as it’s title suggests :)

In other news, the JDownloader released version 0.7. I haven’t tested it much yet and only on Linux, but so far I don’t like the new interface. It is simply slower than the last one, sometimes laggy. And that with a quadcore! Also icons are cropped in the menus and the main menu itself looks weird. But the other features like more supported hosters are nice.

Oh and why the hell does it include the FlashGot Firefox Add-On? I already have that installed, but it annoys me with it anyway (shows hints about it, extra menu entry). This shouldn’t be included in JD in my opinion!

Cinemassacre: Ghostbusters Xbox360 Review and New AVGN Game! (Update: AVGN hat)

avgn-KO-fan-game

James did his first gaming review without the Angry Video Game Nerd leading it, which features a great intro and feels – except for the fact that it’s about a game – like one of his movie reviews. Speaking of which, he also did one of those, but I don’t know anything about District 9, so I didn’t watch it (I hate spoilers, you know…). Mike Matei notified us just about a new boxing AVGN fangame by Devin Cook, which is actually downloadable as ATARI-Rom image. As I don’t have the real thing here (but I know it from the Games Convention ‘08), I use Stella as suggested by the article. This opensource emulator can also be compiled under Linux, so when you are on arch

yaourt -S stella

will do the job AURtomagically. The game is fun to play and has some decent retro graphics of course. If you can’t figure the controls out, take a look at the well written manual (seriously, looks like it is a real game).

Update: Not worth a new post, but ScrewAttack made a nice promotion video for the new AVGN hat!

4 Links: college humor, screwattack and twice cinemassacre

Here’s a collection of interesting and/or funny videos I found recently. As I do not like spoilers as well as short and twitter-like posts which cause readership--; I decided to throw them together in one longer post. Sorted by the date I found them.

1. All cinemassacre’s servers belong to Rolfe’s base

2. College Humor: Minesweeper – The Movie (found here)

3. ScrewAttack at Video Games Live part one

4. Newest AVGN

James found a new „worst game ever“

James Rolfe aka AVGN has made one of his reviews about a game called „Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties“. Not only the name is fucked up, the whole game is. You must really watch this, it is so epic!

Gametrailers.com: Downloads only for registered people

„You must register or log in to use this feature.“

That’s just what I got as I wanted to download the newest AVGN episode. I do not like websites which do that – especially if they didn’t before. It is just unnecessary and complicates the usage. Anyway, JDownloader eats this link:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-screwattack/51566?type=wmv

Although it does not directly get the video file, it downloads the webpage and allows you then to choose which files you want to download. You can find the videos easily by their size.
